5. Minutes from the last meeting are a true accurate account – Fiona moved, seconded Moana.
6. Matters Arising
- Patrick apologised for lateness of minutes causing delay in actions
- Ammon to draft letter of support for Luke Barnsley regarding trapping, planting, upskilling etc.
- Moana to follow up TPK - survey about fallen soldiers celebrations. There are plans to have a memorial for soldiers at Takapūwāhia
- Trevor quote for laundry unit $38,000.
- Sandra - Downer and Chorus quote for fibre cable $55,000. Modem sent to marae was wrong one. May be best to go satellite. TPK grant approved. Sandra to follow up
- Kawhia haerenga postponed till Labour weekend 2022.
- More QR codes have been put up. Sandra to print more
7. 7) Runanga: Moana
- Housing strategy feedback collated and being teased out.
- Ngāti Toa land development - half the land signed back to Ngāti Toa from Carass developers.
- Iwi database being slowly developed
-Investment properties Titahi Bay flats - Ngāti Toa tradies going in. Missed out on Mana motels - a connection to iwi land. Kohai - there was also land for sale up ‘The Track’ (Motuhara) by Taua Tapu track. Aren’t aware sometimes of these coming up for sale. Let Ammon know if any more come up.
- 8 November rūnanga marae seats coming up. Moana to step down from rūnanga. Need someone else preferably knowledgeable about history, tikanga, land etc. Steven Gunson has expressed interest. Hunia is still a rep. They need to be nominated.
A site for a whare taonga has been discussed - looking at land in front of Bunnings.

10. Financial Report – Sandra tabled accounts and moved payables - Kohai seconded.
- Marae to apply for the annual Rūnanga grant to pay for sheets and mattresses - other suggestions - building consents, new forms/chairs - There are some forms in basement but they need covering outside. Ammon can support funding application.

12. Properties:
1. Jolie: Wharekai stocktake finished. Need to do Basement and shed and get rid of stuff. Free stuff on deck. There is a lost property box. Pat Gunson - borrowed chairs need putting back in whare āwhina. Need somewhere to store mops buckets etc maybe a trolley as well. Kitchen whizz missing - pānui out.
2. Heat pumps going well
3. Need more shower curtains.
Trevor has quotes for whare awhina and windows and doors
4. Moana: Will put notices up in wharepaku for cleaning and will purchase wipes
5. Sandra to follow up wifi - see Matters Arising.
13. General Business:
A) Patrick: Pākehā colleague Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWOA) reo class small assignment due about a marae. Has asked if this can be done about Hongoeka - has stayed here a few times. Whānau agreed as long as it’s done properly ‘tika’ and remains confidential between her and wānanga. Patrick and Te Mako review content draft before final goes to TWOA.
B) Maikara:
- Pita Tamiana who took reo classes here wants to come out and mihi to us. Date TBC.
- Marae Covid response - vaccination rules - needs a discussion. Patrick has sent out a link to guidelines for marae.
- Evacuation plan hui had a good response/input lead to good discussion
- Stormwater. Naomi Solomon is onboard. Need clarification around responsibilities for the foreshore between us, the council and Wellington Water. Donna Jensen on board - need to talk to whānau.
C) Moana: Trey to run waiata sessions with kaumātua between the 2 marae. 11–12 on Wednesdays.
- Ipukarea Ngāti Toa sports event coming up - Netball, touch, bball etc. 8 iwi involved. More info in Ngāti Toa pānui
D) Ammon
- Downers have requested a liaison for their work at Plimmerton station. Kahu too busy. Moana to step into this role.
- Heritage trail signage e.g. at Ngāti Toa domain. Needs to be done by us. Aunty Pip involved. Sandra - need one for our pou as well.
- Graphic design to be done for Makara peak
- Hepa to run 6 x advanced reo classes. Dates to be confirmed
- New Ngāti Toa office opening in Wairau.
- Hutt council memorial to erected on Boulcotts farm.
- Takapūwāhia AGM 19–20 November agenda: Kawe mate to be brought on (photos or objects). Golf tournament then wānanga at Battle Hill, AGM followed by Hākari.
- Celebrating Tā Matiu Rei. Dates TBC level 2 pending.
-Gareth Morgan sculpture on his land in Transmission Gully tendered out for design concepts etc. Lacked consultation with Ngāti Toa. Outsiders have tendered. Wiremu and Herman only ones from Ngāti Toa.
E) Fiona: Website/content. Jolie - Rakairoa has memory stick with photos from celebration for Aunty Grace’s retirement.
F) Raureti: Wedding may be postponed due to many of Javarn’s whānau living in Auckland under Covid restrictions.
G) Kohai: Tukutuku fading. Just did restoration of one (painting over seems to be the best option vs redoing). Whānau agreed for Kohai to restore using this method. Looking at creating a replica of another one riddled with borer.
- Arts/Toi open day to showcase our whānau arts and artists including kaumātua, tamariki. May need pōwhiri if outsiders come (some kaumātua have asked if friends come) - also dependent on Covid levels. It was decided we could have one pōwhiri to cover the whole day. Date TBC.
- 27 November Ngāti Toa Porirua Harbour - art demonstration
H) Jolie: Weddings etc coming up. Marae needs a clean up if anyone has time between now and December. Pānui to go out.
I) Patricia: Evacuation plan: Committee formed - Good hui with Whetū Bennett. Next steps are pamphlets to go out to each whānau. Trevor to door knock. Fionna: we can apply for funding and fundraise for this specifically. Jolie - we should work out a date going forward with goals set. 29 January pending/pencilled in.
J) Hamish: Signage needed for tukutuku panel at Plimmerton School.
- Planning for NZ Histories school curriculum underway - looking at collaborating with other schools - creating connections - don’t want others telling our stories. Ngāti Toa input. Puna Mātauranga - education branch of Ngāti Toa rūnanga would be a good starting point. Contact is Bianca Elkington.
- Plimmerton School staff noho request on hold
K) Sandra - possible date for whānau BBQ Friday 4 December.
L) Trevor: Working carefully through land title change - don’t want to upset anybody. Fionna’s partner may be able to help in this area. Patricia: Could this affect our status as an Incorporated Society?
