Hongoeka marae - Activities

Te Ngāhere

Work has been underway for several years to clear invasive Asparagus Weed from the urupā track. This is being done manually without the use of herbicides. Weeding takes place most Sundays 10am-3pm with working bees held a few times a year. Setting and checking of possum traps is included in this work.

Toi Taiao

Toi Taiao @ Hongoeka, a Creative Hub, was established in 2021. Workshop space at the marae supports, promotes and advances the creative ngā toi and te taiao activities of the Hongoeka whānau artists based at Hongoeka Marae. A range of activities take place, including the work of various artists, rongoa workshops and regular tamariki and kaumatua art sessions.
