4. Kaupapa: Raewyn and Amy - Comms team rūnanga: Updates AGM events 19–20 Nov. Kawe mate 6am Friday under māhau at Toa - 8am 175th commemoration of Battle Hill. followed by golf tournament. AGM 4pm to be broadcast live followed by dinner. Saturday Iwi whānau day at Te Rauparaha Arena. All for registered members.
- Rūnanga staff to have internal covid hui then will go iwi wide.
- 2 names nominated for Hongoeka rūnanga board rep.
- 5 in Comms team - use the comms email if you have any questions or anything to pānui
- the Annual report is on the website.
5. Amendments:
Minutes from the last meeting are a true accurate account – Fiona moved, seconded Patricia.
6. Matters Arising
- Laundry unit card/coin operated will have to be enclosed outside somewhere
- WiFi is up and running. Discussion around fibre in Hongoeka. Hunia – should be tabled at rūnanga.
- Plimm station upgrade -Moana met with council. A lot of development happening over xmas. A wānanga will be held for iwi monitors cultural and health and safety. Waiariki and Rakairoa will be interested.
- Heritage trail signage - narratives are being worked on.
- Wiremu leading NgātiToa sculpture mahi Transmission Gully
- Sandra to print some more Covid forms for people who don’t have access to QR scanning
- Jane inquired bout the Mana motels. Moana/Ammon - These were sold as not viable to rūnanga however it was brought up that they are missing the cultural connection Ngāti Toa has to this and other land/properties that come up for sale.
Jane - is there any information about the two properties rūnanga owns in Paremata. There may be some privacy issues around this.
7. 7) Runanga: Moana
- Moana will attend her last AGM before resigning as Hongoeka rep. Fortunate to amongst our many rangatira of Ngāti Toa over the year - many have passed on. Good to see the energy of the new generation and whānau coming through.
- Jane - need to look at how to incorporate cultural values in all rūnanga practices - social services how we live as a whānau - our wants/needs.

Moana suggested we change ‘Booking Officer’ title

12. Properties:
Trevor: Toi Hongoeka progress report tabled. $55,000 for upgrades to whare āwhina, resources for arts and artists. Toi Tamariki started by Wiremu has been fantastic also Rongoā space. Charlotte, Kohai, Sorrel, Miriama Grace-Smith have all been involved - upgrades to basement - everything moving rapidly. Health and safety plan not too strong.
We can bring Miriama Rangihaeta on board to help draft plan.
13. General Business:
A) Patricia: Progress with civil defence emergency mahi - A smaller water tank will be going up the hill at Denise’s
B) Maikara: Awhina sent out minutes for Covid hui - awesome hui.
- Aunty Maureen noted there is no smoke alarm in the whare āwhina.
- Lovely day at marae with Pita Tamiana who is returning to Tūhoe - he gifted us a ngutukākā tree.
C) Fiona: Reo survey only had 7 responses. Patrick to re-email survey. Trevor to distribute paper copies.
- Website/content. Need admin rights to upload images etc
- Strategic plan to be more accessible
- Need Regional Public Health Contact.
D) Kohai: - Market/Arts day Ngāti Toa Porirua Harbour 4 December.
- Hongoeka Toi exhibition. For Hongoeka whānau no externals. Original plan changed it’ll be held over a number of days to keep numbers down.
E) Justin: Tsunami planning day. 22 or 29 Jan available (Saturdays) we can do both daysdon’t wanna make plans without consulting.
- Have been walking a few groups around to Toa (the orca) burial site - at the back of Rick’s
- with other volunteers who took care of him. They’ve offered koha to Hongoeka marae. Is it Ok to put some sort of memorial there. General discussion: Have had issues in past with walkers etc on private land - don’t want to encourage more. The memorial could go down by the boating club. Koha could go elsewhere - Whale charity etc.
E) Jo-Anne: Awesome working bee - 3 sacks done - had about 9 or 10 kids, with photos and activities. Reminder every Sunday 9/10am to 2/3pm.
- Honeysuckle weed is all over up by the urupā
F) Sandra - Has deep cleanse spray - kills Covid germs. Can it be used in whare? May have a reaction on carvings tukutuku etc
G) Patrick: Encourage our whānau to fill out reo survey.
- Need to send a message to whānau around Covid restrictions at marae basically just to follow level 2 rules - wear mask, stay home if sick, distancing, washing hands etc.
- Good to see progress with civil defence stuff.
- Be good to have health services here - Appointments at Ora Toa can be waiting up to a week and a half.
